Legalization of 4x4 Vehicles modifications
Next, set out are the most common changes, these indicate the main features that affect our clients and also the minimal conditions that must be completed so that the vehicle can be legalized.
Select the type of change and make sure you have the necessary information and documentation required.
WHEEL RIM NAND TIRES
Alterations associated with wheels (Wheel Rims and/or Tyres) are the most requested. Please pay attention to the following conditions:
- Wheel structures that provoke an excessive increase in the diameter of the tread thus causing the adjustment of velocity.
- Wheel structures that cause an excessive increase in the track width of the vehicle thus requiring a technical change to the vehicle.
- Tyres that do not jut out from the vehicle’s body. There must be no interference between the tyres and any other part of the vehicle in connection with the suspension.
WHEEL RIM SPACES
Legalization of spacers installed between the wheels and the bushings is possible, although the following aspects must be firstly considered:
- an assemble of the wheel separators that cause an excessive increase in the track width of the vehicle thus requiring a technical change to the vehicle.
- the wheel separators must be accredited, hand crafted wheel separators are not accepted.
- Simple wheel separators are not accepted, they must be double trim or doubly fixed.
SUSPENSION
Any change or modification to the suspension system (shock absorbers/ coil springs-leaf springs) can be legalized although the following aspects are necessary to consider:
- It is advisable to install springs that has a standardization certificate, thus avoiding the need to disassemble the springs to obtain the data.
- Changes that cause excessive reduction in the height of the vehicle will be required to track test.
WHINCH
It is possible to legalize a winch although the following aspects are necessary to consider:
- the winch cannot jut out of the bodywork. Once installed, and with the mounted rollers, the maximum limit of the front of the vehicle must continue being the front bumper.
- the mark and model of the installed winch must have an EC certificate.
- the winch will require a technical installation.
BODYWORK
It is possible to legalize almost any modification or substitution of the vehicle body: lateral spoilers, front and back, detachable bumpers front and back, artificial parts even if they have been custom made. The following restrictions must be firstly considered:
- Sharp edges on the rear spoiler are not permitted or any other projection from the vehicle body.
- Forward bumper exterior wings must not contain any sharp edges or jut out further than the frontal outside edge of the bumper (spoiler “ankle breaker”).
- No aluminum boot spoilers are not permitted.
To negotiate any modification it is first necessary to have the following documentation:
